Bold Venture Park

Ashton Kiosk, Manor Road, Darwen, Lancashire, BB3 2SS

Take Victorian style tea and cakes in the kiosk, walk the park heritage trail, visit the labyrinth. Take the vintage bus to the venue, see the collection of early photographs and plans for restoration of the 1885 weather station.

Darwen Aldridge Communiy Academy

Darwen Aldridge Community Academy, Sudell Road, Darwen, Lancashire, BB3 3HD

Darwen Aldridge Community Academy will open its doors to the public for one afternoon only. On show will be mementoes from the industrial age and the local area. There will be photographic displays of the area, as it was before the school was built and also photographs from the predecessor schools, all based at the front of the building. 
Refreshments will be available as well as activities for the children.

Darwen Heritage Centre

There will be items on view that relate to the History of Darwen, and a Exhibition of photographs of old Darwen. Also there will be a Local History walk around the town and a quiz about the articles on display. And we shall be asking people to bring in any photos. or memorabilia that relate to any war dating as far back as the Boar War to modern conflicts of this century that their Darwen family was involved in.
On the Sunday the day will be more orientated to younger people, with games quizzes and drawing activities.

Darwen Name Origins - an illustrated talk: Explore the meaning behind Darwen place and family names with local historian Peter Watson. Discover more about Darwen's history by delving into the unique stories behind the names of its people and places. Which languages do they stem from? What physical landmarks do they refer to? What can we learn about Darreners' Heritage from their names?

Max 10 people per tour/session. Darwen Town Hall was built in 1878, more information will be available on the day for visitors.

Darwen Vale High School

Old photographs and fascinating documents from the archives are on display. Tours of the school's amazing facilities and building, which has retained its wonderful original frontage and tiled staircases, will occur on the hour and half past the hour. Refreshments are available as the event is held in conjunction with our Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Lower Chapel, Darwen

From 2pm till 4pm, on the Friday and Saturday, there will be a tea party in the Graveyard. The chapel will be open, and the list of graves/burials will be available. 

There may also be an event on Sunday 17th September 2017, celebrating the great hymns of the past, set to new tunes.

St Cuthbert’s Church Open Weekend

St. Cuthbert's Church, Darwen, will be open for visitors across the weekend to come and visit the beautiful Grade II listed building. This year, we welcome visitors who have previously had a connection with the church to bring their photographs and memories to share with all. Our new vicar, Fr Nicholas Davis, will be present to welcome new faces and answer any inquiries.
Tours of the church and its clock tower will be available on Friday and Saturday. Refreshments will be available, with homemade cakes available on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors are welcome to join the worship services on Sunday 10th September.
